푸른아시아 뉴스레터 – Climate Change Report 코너를 통해 세계 주요 언론의 기후변화·사막화 관련 기사를 번역하여 소개하겠습니다. 이번호에는 한반도의 약 7배에 해당하는 몽골 국토가 얼만큼 사막화가 되어가고 있는지 최신 데이터를 소개한 몽골의 기사를 번역하였습니다. [2013.8.15 / By SDC Mongolia]기사 발췌

몽골 사막화의 새 지도 발간

환경녹색개발부의 환경 정보 센터, 과학에코연구센터, 스위스 개발단체의 사막화 방지 프로젝트 지원으로 “몽골 사막화 지도 ”를 제작 발간했다. 새로운 방법을 이용하며 만든 이 지도는 사막화, 토지훼손을 감시하는 올바른 정책을 만들 때 필요한 기본 자료가 될 것이다. 2006년 사막화 방지 연구결과로 몽골 국토의 72 퍼센트가 사막화 진행 되어 있고 여기서 23 퍼센트는 사막화가 약하게 진행되고, 26 퍼센트는 중간정도의 사막화가 진행 중이다. 18 퍼센트는 강하게 사막화가 진행 중이고, 5 퍼센트는 심각한 사막화가 진행 중이라고 결과가 나왔었다.

본 사막화 방지 프로젝트는 2010 년부터 환경 정보 센터, 과학에코연구소와 협력하고 있다. 지금까지 이 단체들을 몽골 사막화 지도 제작 및 발간, 사막화로 인한 토지훼손 피해 대해서 정보센터 구축하고, 정부에서 관련 정책들을 입법화 하는데 많은 기여를 하고 있다.

National Atlas of Desertification is published

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), through its Coping with esertification Project (CODEP), supported the publication of a “National Atlas of Desertification”.

The atlas is a product of the Environmental Information Centre of the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring and the Desertification Study Centre (DSC) of the Geo-Ecological Institute. The atlas, which incorporates a new methodology, will enable sound decisions to be made and policies enacted in relation to tackling desertification and land degradation. According to a national survey of desertification conducted in 2006, 72 percent of Mongolia’s total territory was affected by desertification in some form, of which 23 percent was classified as slow, 26 percent as medium, 18 percent as much degraded, and 5 percent as highly affected. CODEP has been providing support for the implementation of a comprehensive methodology to assess and monitor desertification and land degradation. As well as the development of the atlas, the project has also been supporting the development of an online database providing information about desertification and land degradation (www.eic.mn/DLDbase).
